Thrift Drums – Yamaha PSR-47 Lo-Fi Drum Kit
Give your beats an authentic lo-fi touch with Thrift Drums, a compact drum sample pack sourced from the Yamaha PSR-47 keyboard – a true 1980s thrift-store gem. This kit may be small, but it packs 13 punchy one-shot drum samples brimming with retro character. We loved these sounds so much, we used them in my own music – including my track Ivory with over 3,000,000 streams on Spotify. Now you can inject the same vibe into your productions!
-
Vintage Keyboard Drum Sounds: 13 one-shots sampled directly from a 1988 Yamaha PSR-47 home keyboard. The grainy DAC quality and built-in analog processing of this unit give each hit a thick, nostalgic tone – perfect for lo-fi beats.
-
Essential Lo-Fi Drum Kit: Includes all the core kit pieces: 1 deep kick, 1 snappy snare, 1 crispy hi-hat, 4 toms (for those classic retro fills), 2 melodic bongos, 1 ride cymbal, 1 shaker, plus a bonus one-shot of a guy saying “Yeah!” for some fun vocal flair. This tiny kit covers a lot of ground, from rhythmic backbones to quirky percussion.
-
Proven Indie Cred: These are the exact drum sounds used in our song “Ivory”, which amassed over a million streams. That track’s success is proof of the character and mix-ready quality of the PSR-47 drums – they deliver a distinctive vibe that listeners love. Use Thrift Drums to channel that Men I Trust/Clairo-style indie groove or even a Joy Division-tinged post-punk beat.
-
Perfect for Lo-Fi, Indie & Post-Punk: The sound of Thrift Drums sits right at home in lo-fi hip hop, indie pop/rock, post-punk and darkwave productions. The drums are warm and slightly degraded, adding instant mood. Think bedroom recordings, DIY post-punk demos, or early 80s-style drum machine hits – that’s the vibe.
-
Ready-to-Use, Royalty-Free: All samples are provided as high-quality WAV files that work in any DAW or sampler. No noise reduction or cleanup needed – they’re raw and authentic by design. Download instantly after purchase and drop them into your sampler or drum rack of choice. Of course, everything is 100% royalty-free, so you can use these in commercial tracks without worry.
Behind the Pack – A Lucky Thrift Find
Thrift Drums came to life after we stumbled on a beat-up Yamaha PSR-47 at a local thrift shop. It looked unassuming (and a bit ugly, frankly), and while its synth sounds were nothing special, the drum presets blew us away. We immediately sampled them and started using them in our own songs. The thickness of the kick and toms, and the charmingly low-res shaker and vocal hit, added a unique character that modern sample packs just didn’t have. This little $5 keyboard’s drum kit became a secret weapon in our production arsenal – and now it can be yours too.
What You Get
All 13 drum samples come in 24-bit WAV format. Here’s the breakdown:
-
Kick – Punchy and surprisingly deep, great for lo-fi or retro pop beats.
-
Snare – Snappy with a short decay, sits nicely under reverb for that 80s vibe.
-
Hi-Hat – Crisp closed hat with a lo-fi sheen, perfect for indie-pop grooves.
-
Toms (4) – A set of four electronic toms, each tuned differently. Excellent for Phil Collins-esque tom fills or adding melodic percussion layers.
-
Bongos (2) – Two tuned percussion hits (low and high bongo) adding a worldbeat or synth-pop flavor when needed.
-
Ride Cymbal – A washy ride hit with lo-fi character to add that finishing rhythmic top-end.
-
Shaker – Classic shaker hit, useful in lo-fi hip hop or chillwave to keep momentum with a human feel.
-
“Yeah!” Vox – An enthusiastic male “Yeah!” stab straight from the keyboard’s voice bank. Use it as an accent or Easter egg in your track for fun.
These sounds may be low-tech, but they are high-inspiration. Try layering the Thrift Drums kick or snare with your existing samples to instantly retrofy them. Or sequence an entire drum track using just these one-shots for a consistent old-school vibe.
Production Tip: Route these samples through a bit of spring reverb or a subtle cassette tape plugin – you’ll think they came off a lost Joy Division or Cocteau Twins demo tape.
Bring On the Nostalgia
If you’re chasing that authentic lo-fi sound or want your drums to stand out with vintage character, Thrift Drums is a no-brainer. It’s proof that sometimes the cheap, overlooked gear hides real gold. Add Thrift Drums to your sample library and deliver timeless grooves with a twist of nostalgia.
Ready to dig in? Download Thrift Drums today and start building drum tracks with the charm of a thrift-store find. Your listeners’ heads will start nodding and saying “Yeah!” in no time.

Nailed the sound, I’m writing post punk so fast with these
yo these drums are insane. Excellent punchy raw feel with vast variety. Excited to make a lot of music these drums. Love Tame Impala and all the effort Tuesday Samples put in to re-creating the Deadbeat Drums to perfection.
These drums PUNCH, very versatile styles, everything from LCD SOUNDSYSTEM to Gorillaz to Men I Trust is represented in the packs. The quality of the audio is excellent, good to go right out of the folder, ok to add to add some extra color on them to taste but no need to "improve them", if you will, which is something I've found to be the case with drum packs. Sometimes the recordings have low gain, they're squashed to death, or have long tails with unnecessary information. Here, the drums sound rich, punchy, and cut through right out of the gate. I also like that there's some hits in here with more unique textures, great for fills or to give a little edge when needed to a 4/4 beat. For 20$ it's a great deal, this drum sound could really serve as a foundation for making a whole EP or a Full Length.
Great simple packs with just the stuff you need. No extra filler.
I was so excited when this pack got posted as the drums on Deadbeat are SO cool and could be so versatile, and these sounds did not disappoint! Really full and rich, so many different kind of sounds to play with, and they sound like they came right off the album. Can’t wait to layer all my drums with these funky lil guys!
